Logan City Council is removing an ageing causeway in Doug Larsen Park, Beenleigh, to allow water to flow more freely between the park’s ponds and improve waterway health.

The work, due to start on Monday, 19 October 2026, will open the channel and reduce areas where sediment, debris and litter can build up.

The project will also stablilise the banks, reduce erosion, and create a new habitat for fish, birds and other wildlife.

The top of the causeway, visible above the water’s surface, has long served as an informal crossing point over the water. This access will no longer be an option once the causeway is removed.

However, foot bridges are located close by in either direction as alternative options.

Project works will include:

  • removing the existing causeway and associated stormwater pipes
  • installing erosion protection measures
  • installing habitat logs and natural rock features
  • replanting the area with native and aquatic plants
  • reinstating any damaged turf.

The project site is at the southern end of Doug Larsen Park, near Logan Street Beenleigh.

Works are expected to be finished by late November 2026, weather and site conditions permitting.
