A Logan landowner has partnered with Logan City Council to improve important environmental land through a Voluntary Conservation Agreement (VCA).

Landowner Daniella Rothkugel, a Land for Wildlife member since 2021, recently signed the VCA to conserve 18.6 hectares of her property in Division 4.

Division 4 Councillor Nathan St Ledger said it was now one of 18 private properties across Logan supported by a VCA.

'These agreements are a valuable partnership between Council and landowners to restore and enhance important natural areas for future generations,' Cr St Ledger says.

'Ms Rothkugel’s property provides habitat for endangered and vulnerable wildlife and also contains 18 locally significant species,' Cr St Ledger says.

The property is home to more than 200 native plant species and 84 vertebrate fauna species, including koalas, powerful owls and tusked frogs.

It is also recognised on Queensland Government biodiversity mapping.

Landowners with a VCA receive annual grants for on-ground conservation works, Environment Levy exemptions, expert ecological advice and long-term conservation planning support.

'We want to balance the needs of a growing community with environmental management,' Cr St Ledger says.

'Partnering with landowners is an important part of protecting the landscapes and wildlife that make Logan unique,' Cr St Ledger says.

Ms Rothkugel says her family had strong ties to the property and she was proud to be able to care for it.

'We have a responsibility to look after the land and leave it in good condition for future generations,' Ms Rothkugel says.

Ms Rothkugel also operates the YouTube channel Celaeno Field Notes which shares information about bush regeneration, native plants, weed management, wildlife gardening and local conservation programs.

Council’s Environmental Conservation Partnerships program continues to grow, with 1342 properties now registered.

Together they care for 6940 hectares of habitat and 71.2 kilometres of waterways across Logan.
