Inclusive basketball competition comes to the Hyperdome
Logan athletes, families and basketball fans can take in all the action of a FIBA 3x3 competition when the PLAYGRND Showdown Pro Tour arrives at Logan Hyperdome this Saturday.
Presented by MADE Concepts, the Logan PLAYGRND Showdown - FIBA 3x3 Pro Tour will be held on Saturday 22 August from 12 pm to 8 pm at the Hyperdome in Loganholme, located behind Event Cinemas in the car park.
The event will feature Open Men’s and Women’s, Wheelchair, All-Inclusive and Junior divisions, with music, prizes and community atmosphere throughout the day.
As an official FIBA 3x3 Quest event, the showdown gives teams the opportunity to compete for an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals in Brisbane, which serves as a qualifying event for the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.
MADE Concepts director Ciara Tuttle says one of the things that makes FIBA 3x3 so unique is its highly accessible pathway.
'Whether you’re from Logan, across Queensland or travelling in for the day, every sanctioned FIBA 3x3 event gives athletes the opportunity to earn valuable ranking points and continue building towards representing their state, their country or even competing at the Olympic Games,' Ms Tuttle says.
'Bringing the PLAYGRND Showdown to Hyperdome helps create a highly visible, community-centred pathway event in the heart of Logan. It is about giving athletes access to high-quality competition while creating an inclusive, exciting experience for families and fans.'

PLAYGRND Showdown Ambassador and former professional basketball player Deola D'brown says he understands first-hand how powerful basketball can be in changing a young person's future.
'Basketball gave me opportunities I could never have imagined growing up. It took me from playing on outdoor courts and in local communities to competing professionally around the world, representing clubs at the highest levels and building a career through the game,' he says.
'That's why I'm passionate about FIBA 3x3. It's one of the few sports where young athletes can literally begin on a local outdoor court, compete in sanctioned events, earn international ranking points and work towards representing their country.
'It's a genuine pathway that rewards commitment, competition and consistency.
'Some of the athletes who have come through our events have gone on to wear their national colours, including players such as Jarrod Bairstow, Bride Hopoate and New Zealand representative Chevy, demonstrating the calibre of talent these competitions attract and develop.'
PLAYGRND Showdown Ambassador and Paralympic silver medallist Alison Mosely says 3x3 basketball is a fresh and fast way to play the game.
'I’m excited to be part of the Logan event and to connect with the wheelchair basketball community through both the skills camp and the PLAYGRND Showdown. It is a great opportunity for participants to learn, compete and be part of a genuine pathway event,” she says.
PLAYGRND Showdown Ambassador and Australian Boomers Representative and FIBA Asia Cup Gold Medallist Matt Hodgson says the showdown is one of the most unique sporting events he’s ever witnessed.
'It is inclusive, enjoyable, competitive, and is able to guide participants to legitimate sporting pathways that previously have only been reserved for the chosen few. It’s something that provides incredible value to anyone who signs up,' he says.
