Logan carers making a difference one visit at a time

For Logan's older residents, a regular visit from a trusted carer can mean much more than help around the home.

As Australia marks Aged Care Employee Day on 7 August, Logan residents are being encouraged to recognise the often-unsung carers whose work helps many local seniors continue living safely, independently and with dignity.

Carinity Home Care is celebrating the local carers who help seniors stay connected, independent and active in their community.

Among them are Logan-based lifestyle carers Liza Jane and Sue Weeks, whose work takes them into homes across the city each day, supporting seniors with everything from household tasks to community outings.

For both women, a passion for caring grew from personal experience supporting family members.

Liza says caring for her mother and brother before they passed away inspired her to pursue a career helping older people.

'I wanted to make a difference in people's lives and help them continue doing the things they enjoy,' Liza says.

'I love spending time with seniors. They are always grateful for the support we provide and they have so many wonderful stories and life experiences to share.

'Every day is different and every day I learn something new from them.'

While practical support is an important part of the role, Liza and Sue say building relationships with clients is what makes the biggest impact.

Many seniors live alone and look forward to their regular visits, with carers often becoming a familiar and trusted part of their lives.

Sue says helping people regain confidence and independence is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.

'It's wonderful to see clients become confident enough to get back out into the community,' Sue says.

'That doesn't happen overnight. It comes from building trust, showing up each week and being there when they need support.

'As people get older, their needs can change from day to day. Being able to meet them where they're at and help in whatever way they need is incredibly rewarding.'
